I go through cycles. I'm used to them by now. A few weeks ago the world was alive and colorful and I was inspired and interested, and now I'm bored and tired again. It's okay, it's totally completely okay.
Anyway, nothing matters, I'll be in Maui soon. In my mind, I'm already there. When I was folding laundry yesterday, I swore for a second I could smell passion fruit and guava. It was strange. I just smiled, because I knew I had lent my thoughts to my senses. Either that, or the passion fruit and guava had been called by me, and their essence's were carried across the ocean into my bedroom.
Today I ran errands. You know, the trivial kind. I stopped at Ghetto Ralphs, and picked up coffee, cream, and sugar. Then drove down a mile or so into Toluca Lake. It's strange how everything changes within a few blocks, once you get into the pristine Toluca Lake. I stopped in a liquor store to get water and something sweet. I got hit on by some... dude. And then, while walking down an isle, I heard a huge....THUMP that seemed to come from everywhere at once. Outside, maybe the parking lot, and inside the liquor store too. Maybe the whole city THUMPED. And all at once, the lights in the liquor store went off. The coolers that held beer, the cash register. Outside the stop lights, everything went off. It was a power outage. And you know what? It was....dead silent.
There is a buzzing about the city that we don't notice on a day to day basis. The city hums like the inside of a freezer, or more like an engine. It hums like an engine. And to be in the middle of the city when the hum stops...... well, you notice. I think the moment lasted about 40 seconds before people started to freak out. I think I actually heard a bird chirp. Toluca Lake was dead silent. I think I even had a headache that I wasn't aware of, because during that moment, I felt a heavy weight being lifted from my body. Then, almost all at once, people came out of their buildings scratching their heads, looking around at the street and shrugging their shoulders at eachother, as if to say, "I don't know....do you know?" "No I don't, do you?" As though one of them might have the answer as to what in the world was going on.
I brought my water and Luna Bar to the counter, "Ahhhh... silence" I said.
"Yeah it's kind a' nice isn't it?" the clerk said.
"Yeah it is. I wonder how long it will last." I put the water down. "Can I still pay for this?"
He said yes, but cash only, since the card machine won't work. Then a pimple faced kid ran into the store in a Robeks Juice uniform, screaming and waving, "What the hell do I DO??? There are people in line!" He was freaking out.
"Kick everyone out and lock your door" the liquor store clerk said.
I got into my car to see people nearly running eachother over and mayhem ensuing because of a simple power outage. It was nice for a moment, but once I was driving, it became annoying and slightly dangerous. I just went home. Then I waited till night fell to finish my errands.
So far I have 7 of the 9 days figured out. We're staying in South Maui for the first three nights, to go out and see the town and the pretty beach, and then for the last 5 nights, we're driving to Hana, which is on the more secluded, and sparsley populated side of the island. We're not there to party, or hang out with tourists. We want to get into the land, and Hana is the place to be.
This is Hamoa Beach in Hana, Maui:
There is a State Park called, Wai'anapanapa, which has a bamboo forest, this is also near Hana.
While we're in Hana, this is where we'll be, "The Hana Palms Bungalow" It sits on it's own property, totally secluded from any signs of civilization. In the middle of this gorgeous rainforest:::
Here is the porch, (called a Lanai) Its where we'll eat our breakfasts and dinners.
Here is the other Lanai, on the other end of the house, which has a day bed and is open to the wilderness and the ocean.
......And this is why paradise is the only thing I can really focus on latley. And it's also why todays power outage was.....AWESOME!!!!!!!
